Greencastle, Indiana — October 2025 — Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church has received a $500,000 grant from the National Fund for Sacred Places, a program of Partners for Sacred Places in collaboration with the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

This funding will support the restoration and preservation of Gobin’s historic 1928 church building, including replacement of the original slate roof, masonry and plaster repair, window restoration, accessibility upgrades, and other essential improvements that will ensure the building remains a vibrant community resource for another century.

Gobin is one of just 30 congregations nationwide to receive a portion of more than $8.7 million in total grant funding awarded through the 2025 cohort of the National Fund for Sacred Places. The program provides comprehensive support—including training, planning grants, technical assistance, and capital funding—to help congregations steward their historic buildings for continued community use.

Since its inception, the National Fund has awarded or pledged over $33 million to 168 community-serving congregations representing 28 faith traditions across 45 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.

“This is a transformative moment for Gobin Church,” said Rev. Bryan Langdoc, lead pastor.
“This grant not only honors the architectural and historic significance of our building—it also affirms the vitality of our congregation and our mission to serve Greencastle as a place of belonging, beauty, and justice.”
